Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, currently a judge on Laughter Chefs 2, shares his simple yet powerful thoughts on health and well-being. With this year’s theme, ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’, he believes it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on our health, both physical and mental.

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi says, “Health is very important, especially these days. We are all becoming more stressed and anxious due to the many pressures in life. As we grow and progress, we face numerous challenges, both personally and professionally. These challenges create significant pressure, mentally and physically.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi emphasizes that true health is not only about the body but also about the mind. He adds, “On World Health Day, it’s important to remember that health has two main components: physical health and mental health. Both are equally important, and we must take care of both to lead a happy and balanced life.”

When it comes to physical health, he stresses the importance of regular exercise. “Take out some time every day for basic physical activities like running, jogging, walking, or yoga. Playing sports or engaging in physical games, preferably under proper guidance, is also a great way to stay active and healthy.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi also highlights the significance of mindful eating. “Be aware of your diet, understand your dietary restrictions, and maintain healthy eating habits. It’s not about avoiding foods, but about maintaining balance and portion control.”

Sharing his personal experience, he recalls, “I used to travel a lot, and I noticed how much it impacted my body. But when I returned home, I focused on returning to healthy food and habits. A few simple changes brought noticeable improvements in my body and metabolism.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi explains, “One habit I had was eating biscuits made from refined flour, a habit I kept for over 30 years! But one day, I decided to switch to whole wheat or healthier versions, and I noticed many positive changes in my body.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi also made changes to his meal timings. “Another adjustment I made was eating dinner earlier, around 5:30 PM. This helped me feel lighter and overall better. Additionally, limiting certain foods, like sugar and heavy carbs at night, helped cleanse my system.”

So, what’s his advice for physical well-being? “Stay physically active and eat mindfully,” he says with a smile.

But Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi doesn’t stop at physical health — he also deeply values mental well-being. He says, “It’s extremely important to stay calm and peaceful. A good way to achieve this is by practicing meditation regularly. Spending time in isolation or silence can help you feel more centered.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi believes mental peace can be found in simple joys. “Taking a short break or going on a holiday with your family is equally important — it helps refresh your mind. Especially in big cities or metro areas, life is full of chaos and noise. People are constantly under pressure, which affects their mindset. This leads to irritation, sleep disturbances, and overall mental stress.”

To stay mentally strong, he suggests a few simple habits: “Go on a vacation with your family, visit a wellness center, spend time alone in peace, read good books, or listen to motivational speakers. These activities all help restore mental balance.”

Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi also adds a very important point: “If your mental health is poor, it will undoubtedly affect your physical health. You’ll stop being mindful of what you eat, how you behave, and how you live. It creates a negative environment around you. So, it’s crucial to feed your mind with good thoughts, positive energy, and motivation.”
