Parakh Madan shares her thoughts on why audience preferences have always been unpredictable in the entertainment industry.
She reflects on reduced attention spans, content fatigue, and the challenge of catering to a fragmented viewership.
Parakh Madan, who has been part of shows like Bhagya Lakshmi and Anupamaa, believes that unpredictability has always been an intrinsic part of the entertainment business — but it has become far more visible in today’s content-saturated landscape. According to her, it isn’t the industry itself that has changed drastically, but the way audiences consume and respond to content, shaped by shorter attention spans and an overwhelming range of choices.

Sharing her perspective, Parakh Madan says, “The uncertainty of what the audience will like has always existed. Audiences’ tastes are extremely unpredictable, and that directly reflects how the entertainment industry functions.” She adds that the sheer volume of content available today has amplified this unpredictability. “The sheer volume and diversity of content today can be mentally exhausting for viewers,” she explains.
Parakh Madan points out that as a result, even well-made content sometimes struggles to find its audience. She says, “A lot of good-quality work gets lost in the noise because it doesn’t manage to hook viewers instantly. The speed at which viewers move on has increased because choices are endless. Yet, the industry has always operated under this kind of uncertainty—and it always will”
Reflecting on the nature of the industry, Parakh admits that stability has never been its strongest suit. She explains, “The roots of the entertainment industry are notoriously volatile. There’s no clear solution to make the system steady. The audience is highly fragmented now. Catering to such diversity isn’t easy — but we’re doing the best we can.”
