Anupamaa actress Zalak Desai shares how appreciation keeps her motivated while expressing relief over not facing online trolling.
She also reflects on the value of honest feedback from her family in helping her grow as an artist.
Actress Zalak Desai, who plays Khyati Patel Kothari in Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi’s hit show Anupamaa, recently opened up about the power of appreciation and how it keeps her motivated as an artist.
Appreciation Keeps Me Going,” Says Anupamaa Fame Zalak Desai
Highlighting the value of kind words and recognition, she shared, “Appreciation is absolutely, very, very important. I’ve noticed this in general—when you appreciate someone, it brings a smile to their face and motivates them to do better. As an artist, strong criticism and applause really fuel our purpose and give a sense of achievement.”
Addressing the darker side of fame—online trolling—Zalak expressed gratitude that she hasn’t been subjected to it. She said, “I’ve been very lucky to have not faced trolling per se, and I hope that continues because I’m a sensitive person. As much as we’re told to ignore such comments, they do affect us because we’re human.”
She didn’t hold back when speaking about those who spread negativity online. She said, “Trolls are honestly the biggest losers. It’s easy to sit across a screen and criticise people over things you know nothing about. I think it’s very stupid. Still, somewhere it does affect you a little, no matter how strong you try to be.”
Zalak also credited her family for keeping her grounded and helping her improve. “My family is one of my biggest critiques. They don’t always get to watch every episode, but for the important ones, I make sure they do. They often say, ‘You probably could’ve done this better,’ and I like that. It means they believe in me and expect more from me,” she ended with a smile.
