Anurag Kashyap Confirms His Exit From Bollywood: Everyone Is Chasing Unrealistic Targets

Not once has it happened that Anurag Kashyap said something and did not make headlines. But this time around, he’s made big news as the director has officially stated that he has left Bollywood, for good.

He spoke to The Hindu, where he revealed how everyone’s only after earning big numbers at the box office and there’s not much room for creative freedom in what they do. The actor-director had once also expressed how he was frustrated with the ‘toxic’ industry.

Kashyap, while talking to the portal, further highlighted how he would want to stay away from people in the industry and how it has become extremely toxic. He said, “Everyone is chasing unrealistic goals, striving to create the next Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore film.” The creative atmosphere is gone.”

Reportedly, Kashyap has moved to Bengaluru and is now inclined towards working in South films so as to satisfy his creativity. This wouldn’t be the first time when he spoke against Bollywood, as he has in fact, mentioned on occasions, how he is ‘disgusted’ and ‘disappointed’ by his own industry.

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kashyap expressed how he envies South filmmakers because it is now difficult for him to go out and experiment. He added how those things come at a cost and it makes the producers think about profits.

Kashyap had also said how the joy of filmmaking is sucked out because right from the beginning of making any film, it’s about ‘how do we sell it?’.

On the work front, meanwhile, Kashyap is gearing up for Dacoit, where he will be playing a cop. It is a bilingual film and will also feature Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. The makers of the film have not announced release date yet.

Kashyap is currently busy with promotions for Footage, which is a Malayalam thriller directed by Saiju Sreedharan. The cast includes Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok, and hit theatres back in August last year. The film’s Hindi version is all set to hit theatres on March 7, 2025.
