Ashita Dhawan, known for her ability to bring depth and authenticity to her roles, confesses that while her performances may resonate with the audience, she is rarely content watching herself on screen. In an exclusive interview with Downtown Mirror Weekly, the actress candidly shares her thoughts on self-assessment, memorable roles, sources of inspiration, and the one dream character that continues to elude her. She admits, “I’m my own toughest critic. I can never watch a scene and think, ‘Wow, I nailed that.’ I’m always reflecting—could I have paused a little longer, smiled a little less, or explored that emotion more deeply? This constant self-analysis is what drives my growth as an actor.”
At home, her most honest critic is someone she holds dear — her husband. The Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai actress chuckles as she recalls, “My husband doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He’ll tell me exactly what he felt didn’t work. Often, I already know what needs improvement, and hearing it from him just confirms it. But he also celebrates my successes when I’ve delivered a performance that resonates. His honesty is something I deeply appreciate.”

When asked about what she values in her own work, she highlights the emotional honesty she brings to the screen. Ashita Dhawan says, “One thing I truly love about my performances is the authenticity of the emotions I convey. They feel real. However, I do wish to work on being more spontaneous. I tend to over-prepare at times, and I’d love to trust the moment more, allowing the performance to flow naturally.”

The way audiences connected with my character felt deeply personal. Kanta Ben in Shaadi Mubarak was another role that I hold dear — she had a perfect balance of humour and heart. And I’ll always treasure my role in Ladies Special. That show was ahead of its time, and it had a unique soul of its own,” she reflects.
