Chaitali Kohli on International Women’s Day: Women Need a Reason to Step Away from Daily Responsibilities and Celebrate Themselves
With March 8 observed as International Women’s Day to acknowledge the achievements and contributions made by women, Single Papa and Crew fame actor Chaitali Kohli believes it is a day of reflection and gratitude.
She said, “I feel Woman’s Day is one day that we celebrate as one. I know we all say that every day is a celebration, but trust me, being a woman, it does need a reason to come out of the daily routine and responsibilities.”

She feels the definition of an empowered woman has evolved over the years. Chaitali Kohli said, “What once centered on basic rights and freedom from oppression has evolved into a far more nuanced concept that includes agency, identity, leadership, and influence in both social and professional spheres.”
She Reflects on the Meaning of International Women’s Day
Chaitali Kohli stressed that women today are reshaping leadership and said, “Not by imitating traditional models of power, but by redefining what leadership itself looks like. The shift is moving away from authority-based systems toward a culture driven by influence, empathy, collaboration, and purpose across industries, families, and communities.”
Chaitali Kohli also emphasised the need for financial independence. She said, “It is one of the strongest forces that shapes a woman’s confidence, independence, and ability to make her own decisions.” It shifts a woman’s position in society — from someone expected to depend on others to someone who actively shapes her own life, choices, and future.”
“Earning income builds self-belief. It reinforces the idea that her skills, intellect, and effort have tangible value. This confidence often extends beyond work into personal relationships and social participation,” Chaitali Kohli added.
She mentioned that society should move beyond symbolic gestures and confront the deeper systems and mindsets that shape access to opportunity, power, and representation. She said, “It will then truly become a celebration of equality.”
Chaitali Kohli Opens Up About Experiencing Gender Bias at Home
True progress lies not in momentary acknowledgment, but in restructuring institutions and reshaping cultural narratives. It requires both systemic reform that ensures fairness in policy and practice and a collective shift in mindset that normalises equality as a societal standard.”
“Only when equality is embedded in the fabric of everyday life — across workplaces, communities, and homes — will Women’s Day stand not as a reminder of unfinished work, but as a celebration of progress fully achieved,” she added.
Asked if she had any personal encounters of gender bias, Chaitali Kohli said, “I think I have largely seen it till recent times in my family. Especially with Grandmother, whose preference was always my brother. It runs in our homes, until now.”
