Celebrity Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi believes one lifetime isn’t enough to explore India’s rich culinary landscape.
With his restaurants, TV presence, and digital ambitions, he’s on a mission to take Indian flavours global.
Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, famously known for his catchphrase “Namak Shamak,” and most recently seen on the reality show Laughter Chefs, has spent decades blending the flavors of India with global influences. Yet, his heart has always belonged to Indian food.
He shared that though he initially trained across all sections of the kitchen, Bakery, Chinese, Western, and Butchery. not just for a few months but for years, and mastered several cuisines, it was Indian food that truly drew him in.
He says, “When I started learning about Indian food, I felt this is something I must master and continue promoting.
I’ve always called myself a ‘Chef Desi at Heart’ and have tried to explore as much Indian cuisine as I can to share it with the world. Because globally, people understand only a fraction of Indian food, and by that, I mean not even 5%.”
Driven by this passion, Chef Sokhi has used restaurants, digital platforms, and television to showcase India’s culinary richness.
He notes, “There’s so much India has to offer that I always say, one lifetime is too short for anyone in India to taste and master the vast culinary fabric spread across the country.”
In his restaurants too, he focuses on balancing traditional Indian flavours like khatta-meetha and spicy with innovative pairings to create a new food experience.
“I’m also working on building a unique restaurant brand not just known for food, but also in real estate and FMCG. Like McDonald’s is more than just a burger brand, that’s the model I envision,” he concluded.
