Farman Haider: TRP-Drop Panic Is No Longer Weekly, But Daily

Farman Haider opens up about the intense daily pressure of TRP ratings and how the digital shift has reshaped television.

The Pocket Mein Aasmaan actor shares his thoughts on the changing dynamics of the industry and his deep commitment to taking on impactful roles.

For the longest time, ever since satellite channels brought in a wave of daily soaps, Television Rating Points (TRPs) have served as the ultimate yardstick to measure a show’s success—often sealing its fate.

Traditionally, Thursdays have been the dreaded day when TRP results are announced, with cast and crew anxiously awaiting to see whether their efforts paid off. But things have changed. What was once a weekly worry has now become a daily source of stress. The fear of even a single-day dip in numbers now looms large, affecting decision-making at every level.

Actor Farman Haider, who played the male lead in Pocket Mein Aasman, understands this pressure all too well. The show, which premiered in January, is set to wrap up this month—marking the end of its brief four-and-a-half-month run.

“See, the channel needs to make money, and that’s why we have shows,” Farman Haider explains candidly. Farman Haider adds, “Of course, I’d love a system where shows are given more time to grow and build TRPs gradually. Ultimately, it’s beyond our control.”

Hindi television has undergone a significant transformation, especially with the rise of OTT platforms, which have given viewers an overwhelming range of options. The actor, who has also been part of Saavi Ki Savaari and Aaina – Roop Nahin, Haqeeqat Bhi Dikhaye, acknowledges this shift and reflects, “TV has changed, especially post-COVID.

With the surge in online viewing and web series, the entire content landscape is different now. The speed of content consumption has increased, attention spans have shortened—you really can’t blame the audience. We have to evolve with the times. That’s why, nowadays, even a one-day TRP drop sends everyone into panic mode.”

Currently enjoying a well-deserved break in Dubai after wrapping up Pocket Mein Aasman, Farman Haider is taking this time to reflect and recharge before diving into his next project. He continues to approach his career with enthusiasm and a clear vision for the future.

“I’m here to do good work,” Farman Haider shares, adding, “I want to take on roles that are meaningful and stay relevant in an industry that’s changing fast. I’m committed to working every day of my life, and I’m ready to adapt to whatever the future brings.”
