The Gehna actress talks about her love for plants, eco-conscious living, and inspiring the next generation to care for the planet.
While many people mark Earth Day with a post or a symbolic act, for actress Gulfam Khan Hussain, every day is Earth Day. Her bond with nature isn’t just a sentiment — it’s a lifestyle deeply woven into her daily choices, habits, and values.
Currently seen in Gehna – Zevar Ya Zanjeer, Gulfam Khan has also been part of popular shows like Bh Se Bhade, Naamkarann, Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga, Bhagyavidhaata, and Ziddi Dil Maane Na. But beyond the screen, she’s just as committed to her role as a caretaker of the Earth.

“I have a garden at home, and I absolutely love spending time there,” Gulfam Khan says with a smile.
Gulfam Khan adds, “I propagate plants, take cuttings, and grow new ones. Whenever I see a plant someone has discarded — wilted or dried up — I bring it home and try to revive it. I truly believe that if you’re consuming oxygen, you should contribute to producing it too.”
Gulfam Khan practices what she preaches. From waste segregation to plastic-free shopping habits, she’s mindful about her environmental impact. “Separating wet and dry waste is second nature now. I always carry cloth bags, avoid plastic, and compost kitchen waste, which becomes fertiliser for my plants. It’s a natural way to nourish the soil without harmful chemicals,” she shares.
Her mission also extends to the next generation. Gulfam Khan says, “Being a plant lover is wonderful, but it’s not enough. We need to pass this love on, especially to children. They’re curious, eager to learn, and teaching them how to plant a seed and watch it grow can spark a lifelong respect for nature.”
Gulfam Khan believes true sustainability lies in simplicity. “You don’t require fancy tools or expensive gear to care for the planet — just your right intent. Earth Day shouldn’t be a one-off celebration. It should be a reminder of our everyday responsibility to protect the world that gives us life,” she ends.
