Hansa Singh shares her spiritual and nostalgic take on Dussehra, embracing solo celebrations and cherished memories from her childhood.
Living independently in Mumbai, she finds joy in recreating traditions and staying connected with her roots.
Actress Hansa Singh, known for her roles in Despatch, Goodbye, and Criminal Justice, shares her personal take on Dussehra, reflecting a mix of nostalgia, spirituality, and self-reflection. With her busy schedule and independent life in Mumbai, Hansa says festivals now hold a more personal and spiritual meaning for her.
“Over the years, festivals with family had their own special flavor. But as I live by myself, Dussehra is more about being in sync with God. Since it falls on October 2 this year a date that holds a very special place in my life I will do my prayers. For me, celebrating life itself is a celebration of the festival,” she says.
Unlike actors working on daily soaps who often celebrate on set, Hansa’s schedule allows her to mark the occasion quietly. “I don’t do daily soaps, so it’s not the same for me as it is for others. I’ll be celebrating by myself, in sync with God. I might watch some fireworks or catch a movie,” she shares.
Her childhood memories of Dussehra remain vivid. “As kids, it was a ritual to watch the Ramleela at the Maidan next to our house. The joy of being with family, watching the performances, enjoying the rides and games at the Mela, it was so real and endearing. I miss those days. Now it’s quieter. I wish I could go back,” she recalls.
When it comes to festive food, Hansa fondly remembers her mother’s cooking. “Dussehra food always meant poori, aloo ki sabzi, kheer, and raita, all made by my mother. If I were home, it would’ve been the same. Here in Mumbai, I’ll try to recreate it, especially the kheer. And yes, I’m a good cook too,” she adds with a smile.
