“I Miss My Sister on the Show A Lot,” Says Mayur Vakani As TMKOC Marks 17 Years

It’s not just fans who dearly miss Disha Vakani’s iconic portrayal of Dayaben in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, but even the cast and crew feel the void she left behind. It’s been eight years since Disha stepped away from the show to embrace motherhood and focus on her personal life. Since then, the production team has made several efforts to either bring her back or find a worthy replacement but neither has been successful.

Asit Kumarr Modi Reflects on the Challenge of Replacing Dayaben

As reported by us, at the recent celebration marking 17 years of the show, producer Asit Kumarr Modi addressed the media, cast, crew, and their families, acknowledging the challenge of filling Disha’s shoes. He emphasised how difficult it is to find someone who can match the energy and charisma that Disha brought to Dayaben, a character that has become a household name.

Mayur Vakani Shares His Emotional Journey with Sister Disha Vakani

At the same event, actor Mayur Vakani, who plays Sundar, the younger brother of Dayaben shared his emotional thoughts about his real-life sister’s absence from the show. Speaking fondly of their journey together, he said, “I have done theatre with my sister from a young age.

To come such a long way with her feels incredible and to get an opportunity to perform with her on the show feels like a rare opportunity. I have enjoyed every bit of time performing with her on the show.

She isn’t part of the show anymore and I am continuing my journey. Uske saath perform karte karte main journey mein aagey aa gaya. But I miss my sister on the show quite a lot.”

Mayur Vakani grew visibly emotional as he expressed his gratitude for being part of the show, adding, “I am grateful to Asit Kumarr Modi and Dilip Joshi for their continued support.”
