Filmmaker Akshay Singh reflects on balancing awards, audience connection, and creative satisfaction.
He emphasizes the importance of staying story-focused while navigating multiple roles behind the camera.
For filmmaker Akshay Singh, success isn’t limited to accolades or recognition. It’s about storytelling that resonates, creates impact, and remains true to its vision.
He says, “For me, success is multi-dimensional. Awards and recognition are gratifying, they affirm the hard work of the team and the vision behind the project.”
Citing Pinky Beauty Parlour as an example, he adds, “My film was screened at over 30 international film festivals and received several awards, including the People’s Choice Award, Special Mentions, and a Best Director award. It was chosen as the opening or closing film at multiple festivals and was well-received critically during its theatrical run.”
Still, Akshay believes awards are only part of the equation. He says, “The truest measure of success is when the audience connects with the work, whether they laugh, cry, or simply feel something. Creative satisfaction matters too knowing I stayed true to the story and challenged myself as a filmmaker.”
Though he juggles multiple roles, actor, director, and producer, his approach remains story-first. He shares, “Wearing multiple hats is tough but rewarding. The key is to remain objective and ensure that every creative choice serves the narrative.”
What fuels him most is his love for storytelling. He says, “I genuinely enjoy being involved in every aspect of filmmaking, from script to shoot to post-production. Having a supportive team, especially my co-producer Bahnishikha Das, keeps me focused and grounded.”
He concludes, “In the end, it’s about staying curious, passionate, and committed to telling stories as authentically as possible.”
