I’m Particularly Drawn To Characters With Grey Shades, Says Namita Lal

With a career spanning over a decade, Namita Lal has established herself as a versatile actress, having portrayed a wide array of characters — from a vegetable seller to a masseuse. The actress, who has been part of projects like Lihaaf, Football – The Goal, Oxygen, and Inn Galiyon Mein, is eager to continue exploring diverse roles.

Namita Lal shared, “I have a strong desire to take on varied characters, and there’s a long list of roles I’d love to explore. I’m especially attracted to characters with grey shades—like a don or strong, female-driven roles. Powerful characters like those in international films and series, such as Nomadland or those that recently won Oscars, are something I’d love to embody. I feel fortunate to have already worked in about ten films and series, each offering a new kind of challenge.”

Looking ahead, Namita Lal hopes to continue diversifying her roles without being typecast. “I want to keep portraying different kinds of characters. Projects come my way often, but I’m selective about the ones I choose. I’m passionate about delving into different lives and stories, and that’s what motivates me. I intend to stay true to that path,” she added.

Namita Lal also expressed a keen interest in the horror-comedy genre, saying, “I absolutely love horror-comedy films. It would be amazing to work in more films like Stree.”

What excites her the most as an actor is the immersive process of embodying a character and experiencing their world. “Acting is about being in the moment. Even though the circumstances may not be real, we live fully in the present while performing — there’s no past or future, only now. That complete immersion into the character is what gives me the greatest thrill. When you’re lost in the character, that moment is all that matters. For me, it’s a deeply meditative and spiritual experience, and I find immense joy in it.”
