It’s A Wake-Up Call For All Of Us: Aadesh Chaudhary On People Seeking Advice From ChatGPT On Suicide

Aadesh Chaudhary, who is popularly known for his roles in shows like Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Sasural Simar Ka, and Diya Aur Baati Hum, to name a few, believes the rising number of people turning to AI platforms like ChatGPT for information about suicide is a disturbing reminder of the growing mental health crisis around us.

He said, “I find this extremely concerning. It’s a wake-up call for all of us in the tech and entertainment industry to be more responsible and empathetic. We need to ensure that AI tools like ChatGPT are designed with safety features that redirect users to professional help or helplines when they express distress or seek harmful information.”

He feels people should instead seek help from professional helplines. He said, “If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a mental health professional or call a helpline like Aasra (9820466726) in India.”

Though he believes that technology has reshaped the way people connect, he feels the same tools can also isolate them if used without balance.

“As an actor who’s active on social media and tech platforms, I think technology is a double-edged sword,” he said, adding that instead of blaming technology, we should learn to use it wisely. He said, “I don’t think technology is a bane in itself; it’s about how we use it. Balance is key.”

And he gave a compassionate perspective on why people are turning to AI and social media instead of human connections for emotional support. He said, “I think it’s because AI and social media platforms are often more accessible, anonymous, and maybe seem less judgmental at times. While digital platforms can provide some level of support or a space to vent, they shouldn’t replace human connections entirely.”

He did not shy away from accepting that his own relationship with technology has been overwhelming at times. He added, “I allocate specific times for social media engagement or work-related stuff and make sure I disconnect and spend time with family and friends or pursue other hobbies like reading or working out.”

Addressing the core issue, Aadesh suggested that social media companies and AI developers also need to play their part in creating safer online spaces.

He said, “I think social media companies and AI developers need to implement stronger content moderation policies. Also, promoting positive content, mental health awareness, and digital well-being features like time management tools or reminders to take breaks can go a long way.”

He also believes that public figures should create the awareness too. “I believe celebrities and influencers have a significant role. As a public figure, I feel it’s our responsibility to use our platforms wisely, to spread awareness about mental health, promote responsible tech use, and maybe share our own experiences to help normalise conversations around these topics,” Aadesh ended.
