Jamai No. 1 Actress Shruti Gholap: I Crave Characters That Scare Me

Jamai No. 1 actress Shruti Gholap reflects on the emotional demands of acting, the value of discomfort in growth, and her love for storytelling that breaks conventional molds.

The actress also opens up about finding balance and staying creatively inspired.

Shruti Gholap, who portrays Sumati in Jamai No. 1, produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah under Studio LSD, believes every role comes with its own set of challenges. Speaking about the ongoing hustle in the entertainment industry, she shared, “Struggle is part of the DNA of this profession. But my perspective on it has changed—I don’t see it as negative anymore.”

“It’s what sharpens you. It keeps you grounded. Every project comes with its own hustle—whether it’s landing it, preparing for it, or letting go of it emotionally when it ends,” Shruti Gholap added.

Embracing Emotions, Breaking Stereotypes, and Growing Through Discomfort

She emphasizes that true growth lies outside of comfort zones. “If everything feels easy, it’s a sign that you’re no longer pushing your boundaries or evolving. I crave characters that scare me a little, that demand more than just lines and expressions. That’s when the true transformation takes place,” Shruti Gholap said.

To stay creatively inspired—especially when long-running roles become emotionally draining—Shruti Gholap reconnects with her roots. “I I visit my hometown, embrace my culture, or or relax with my cats. Music and dance also keep my energy flowing,” she shared.

She also appreciates audience engagement but doesn’t let it dictate her performance. “I love hearing from the audience, but I don’t act to please—never have. If people are reacting strongly, that means the character is alive. Whether it’s love or criticism, I take it as a sign that the work is resonating,” Shruti Gholap said.

Shruti Gholap is also excited about how storytelling is evolving. “We’re finally seeing stories told through voices that were once silent—female characters, regional dialects, rural settings—there’s space for it all. I feel like we’re just getting started, and I’m here for it,” she concluded.
