Jay Soni opens up about stepping into an ongoing show, replacing Sorab Bedi in Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi. The actor shares his views on television’s unpredictability, building chemistry with co-stars, and why he doesn’t see replacements as a big deal.
Jay Soni, fondly remembered for his role as Abhinav Sharma in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently stepped into a new chapter of his career. He took over the role of the male protagonist in Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi last month, stepping into the shoes previously filled by Sorab Bedi. While stepping into an already running show might rattle some, Jay remains unfazed. For him, such transitions are just part of the television game.
“Replacing someone isn’t a challenge,” Jay Soni says with calm confidence. He adds, “It’s part of the job. You give your best, and the rest is up to the audience. Eventually, you start figuring out what more you can bring to the role and where there’s room to grow.”
Even for a seasoned actor, joining a show midstream often means having to forge new bonds — both on screen and off. When asked whether he felt any hesitation stepping into an ongoing narrative, Jay Soni was quick to shrug it off. “If you’re experienced, it’s not really difficult to build that connection. You just come, do your work sincerely, and let the rest take shape organically,” he shares.
Jay Soni also spoke candidly about the unpredictability of daily soaps — where plots can change overnight and entire storylines are scrapped or added at the drop of a hat. “Yes, it happens all the time. Storylines flip, tracks get added suddenly. I’ve gotten the hang of it,” he shares, adding, “I don’t dwell on things too much—I just stay present and let things unfold naturally.”
Currently, Jay Soni is glad the audience is warming up to his on-screen chemistry with co-star Sanchita Ugale. “I’m really happy with the feedback. People are loving the chemistry between Sanchita and me. I’m experimenting as we go along, and I’m glad the audience is enjoying that.”
With his grounded approach and evolving performance, Jay Soni continues to prove why he’s one of TV’s most dependable and admired talents.
