Karan Wahi: To Be A Good Host, You Need A Bit Of That Dilliwala Vibe

What does it take to be a good reality show host? Charm, the ability to connect with the audience, contestants, and judges, and quick thinking? Absolutely—all of that, plus a bit of that signature Dilliwala vibe. That’s exactly what Karan Wahi  believes.

Over the course of his two-decade-long career, Karan Wahi has won millions of hearts—not only with his acting prowess but also with his charm as a host. The versatile entertainer, who is currently diving into compelling projects in the OTT and film space, has also carved a niche for himself as a reality show anchor. Between 2012 and 2021, Karan hosted as many as 11 shows, including Nach Baliye 5, Dance India Dance Super Moms, Indian Idol Junior, Nach Baliye 6, Indian Idol 7, India’s Next Superstars, India Ke Mast Kalandar, Kitchen Champion 5, The Voice, Dance India Dance 7, and the debut season of Indian Pro Music League in 2021. His consistent performances established him as one of the most sought-after hosts in Indian television.

Given his vast experience in the space, we asked Karan Wahi what it takes to become a successful host. He shared, “To be a good host, you need to be proactive and a quick thinker. In Indian terms, you need to have that spunk to keep the audience entertained. And yes, a bit of that Dilliwala vibe helps too (laughs)! The magic happens when the host truly connects with the audience. But the main thing is having the spunk, being quick on your feet, and knowing what to say and when.”

After enjoying a successful stint as a host, the actor made a conscious decision to take a break in pursuit of more challenging and creatively fulfilling roles. However, Karan Wahi admits that hosting still holds a special place in his heart. “I do miss hosting sometimes,” he says.

Karan Wahi, who was last seen in the web series Raisinghani VS Raisinghani and will soon appear in Couple Goals 5, shares, “But I felt it was important to step away for a while to reinvent myself and explore new avenues.”
