Parakh Madan on Mumbai: “The City Teaches You Resilience but Survival Is Expensive”
Parakh Madan, who has been part of shows like Bhagyalakshmi, Anupamaa, Meet, and Qurbaan Hua, among others, loves Mumbai but feels surviving in the city is not easy.
She said, “Mumbai is a blend of extreme contrasts. It is the financial capital of the country, and the ‘hustle culture’ of the city teaches you resilience. However, it can get exhausting due to the daily urban challenges like traffic, cost of living, space constraints, etc. Living, working, and thriving in Mumbai is definitely not for the faint-hearted,” she added.

Why Parakh Madan Feels Mumbai Is Highly Professional and Merit-Oriented
She agrees that Mumbai is far more professional compared to many other Indian cities and says, “The pace of this city keeps you on your toes. The density of opportunities here is unparalleled. So, the work ethic is very strong because survival itself is very expensive in Mumbai. Hence, time equals money for the majority of residents.”
“Also, Mumbai is often seen as more merit-oriented, so if you deliver, you stay,” Parakh Madan added.
She also revealed that the pace of life in this city keeps her motivated. Parakh Madan said, “I think it also depends on your internal state of being because the same momentum can be exhilarating for some and exhausting for others. For me, it is most definitely a ‘kick’ so far. I am competitive by nature, so I love the intensity here.”
She mentioned that “The city that never sleeps” is a phrase often used for Mumbai, and that shows it is quite safe. She said that one of the main reasons it happens is clearly due to its nighttime mobility. The public transit system acts as a safe corridor throughout this city 24*7. The policing and surveillance are exceptional.”
What Changes Does Parakh Madan Want to See in Mumbai?
“Talking from my personal experience, I can say that even if I pack up at 2-3am at night in any part of the city, I’ve never felt unsafe driving back home alone,” Parakh Madan added.
As for the pros and cons of the city, she mentioned, “Unbeatable career growth and networking opportunities, new infrastructure, safety, and diversity are the pros of this city.”
“The cons are the astronomical rents, tiny spaces, traffic congestion, monsoon flooding, and humidity, according to me,” Parakh Madan added.
Any two changes that you would like to see in the city? “First and foremost, The primary focus should be on improving the AQI. The grey infrastructure (concrete and steel) should be equally balanced with green corridors.
Secondly, affordable housing should be prioritised. There should be more mid-income housing options available to all,” Parakh Madan ended.
