Namita Lal: I’ve Always Feared Negative Feedback

Actress-producer Namita Lal, known for her projects Lihaaf, Football – The Goal, and Oxygen, and currently seen in the film Inn Galiyon Mein, says that she loves receiving feedback on her work from her family.

The actress-producer adds that her father helps her out a lot in this regard. “In my family, the biggest support has always come from my father. He’s a well-known intellectual and an expert in Hindi literature. He has helped me a lot with understanding scripts and stories. I don’t see anyone as a critic in the negative sense. In fact, he has been my greatest supporter,” Namita Lal says.

As for the feedback from her fans on her performances, Namita Lal says, “To be honest, I’ve always feared negative feedback. It’s not just about fans; I’ve always struggled with handling strongly negative comments. Even now, I feel I haven’t fully developed the strength to deal with that.

So far, most of the feedback I’ve received has been positive and focused on the character I’ve played, not on me personally, and that helps. Because I’m still new to the industry, I would really love to receive constructive feedback that helps me grow, not ones that just bring me down. Negative criticism for the sake of it can hurt, but helpful advice is always welcome.”

Talking about her dream role, one that is still on her wish list, Namita Lal says, “As for my dream roles, I have many! I want to play strong female characters — those with emotional depth, those that are a bit grey, or involved in powerful relationship dramas.

That kind of work would be a dream come true. I really admire roles like Meryl Streep’s in The Devil Wears Prada or Mamma Mia, and Viola Davis in Fences. Those are the kinds of characters I would love to explore. For that, I know I’ll need to study and explore the international cinema space a lot more.”
