Niharika Chouksey On Makar Sankranti: The Festival REMINDS Me To Slow Down & Reconnect

Niharika Chouksey opens up about what Makar Sankranti means to her, blending childhood memories with reflection and gratitude.

The actress shares how the festival reminds her to slow down, embrace warmth, and choose hope.

As winter slowly loosens its grip and the sun begins its northward journey, Makar Sankranti arrives like a gentle promise of brighter days ahead. For actress Niharika Chouksey, the festival is not just a date on the calendar but an emotion, one that carries memories, meaning, and a deep sense of grounding.

Speaking about what the festival signifies to her, Niharika shares, “Makar Sankranti has always felt like a turning point, not just astrologically, but emotionally too. It marks the moment when everything starts moving towards light, and I find that symbolism very powerful. It reminds you that no matter how long a phase of cold or darkness is, warmth will eventually find its way back.”

The actress, currently seen as Anu in Tumm Se Tumm Tak, says festivals like these help her stay rooted despite a demanding work schedule. “When you’re constantly shooting, travelling, and living out of a suitcase, you sometimes forget the simple joys. Sankranti reminds me to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the traditions that have shaped who I am,” she says.

Recalling childhood celebrations, Niharika Chouksey’s voice softens with nostalgia. She says, “For me, Sankranti means rooftops filled with laughter, the sound of reels spinning, and skies dotted with colourful kites. There was an innocent excitement in trying to cut the next person’s kite, and sharing til-gud. Those small rituals carried such big emotions.”

As the years passed, the meaning of the festival evolved for her. “Today, it’s less about the rush and more about reflection. I still love the colours and the energy, but I also cherish the calm that comes with offering gratitude. I take a moment to thank the universe for the work I have, the people who stand by me, and the lessons the past year has taught,” Niharika Chouksey shares.

Looking ahead, Niharika Chouksey hopes to carry the spirit of the festival into her everyday life. “Just like the sun chooses to move towards brighter days, I hope we all choose hope, patience, and warmth in whatever we do. That, to me, is the true essence of Makar Sankranti,” she concludes.
