Rinhee Suberwal shares how dance is both a sacred practice and a powerful tool for emotional and spiritual healing. She also talks about her inspirations like Michael Jackson and Prabhu Deva.
Choreographer and spiritual healer Rinhee Suberwal believes there is a strong link between dance and spirituality. For her, dance holds immense significance.
Rinhee Suberwal says, “Dance is my life, dance is my passion, dance is my reason to live. Dance and spirituality are very close to each other because when you dance, you become aware of your body and mind. And when you’re spiritually aware, you connect with your soul. When all three align, a different kind of performance emerges, and your connection with the divine becomes stronger.”
Rinhee Suberwal continues, “Being both a healer and a choreographer, I’ve noticed that dancing helps cleanse your aura. It’s one of the simplest methods for detoxifying your system.”
Reflecting on the current dance trends, Rinhee Suberwal expresses concern over the growing confusion between dance and other performance forms. She observes, “Nowadays what I feel is that there is a major difference between dance, stunts and gymnastics. So people should maintain that difference.
Dance is about graceful movements, about expressions, about originality, about passion, about expression, about emotions, everything. Somewhere I feel because the world has become too tech savvy, so everything has turned technical, which doesn’t go down well with our youth.”
Speaking about social media dance trends, Rinhee Suberwal says, “Social media has played a major role in shaping people’s careers in dance and the arts. It allows people to connect on a one-on-one level, which is really powerful. Even if you’ve been lost as a choreographer, social media can help you regain your identity and respect.”
Rinhee Suberwal also believes that dance helps people connect. She explains, “Dance brings people closer, makes you more spiritual, smarter, and improves your skills. It opens you up and helps you break through the inhibitions and hesitations that many of us carry. It completely shatters those walls and allows you to enjoy life in a new way — it changes the way you think and perceive everything and everyone around you.”
As for her inspirations, Rinhee Suberwal shares, “I love two performers for obvious reasons — Michael Jackson, MJ. I was fortunate enough to meet him as a child at Universal Studios in Hollywood. And I’ve worked with Prabhudeva and his family, so I deeply admire him as a choreographer, dancer, and mentor.”
