Rohit Purohit On Completing A Year Of Replacing Shehzada Dhami In Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai: Didn’t Expect The Transition To Be So Smooth
Rohit Purohit took over the role of Dr. Armaan Poddar in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai after Shehzada Dhami’s exit, which reportedly stemmed from issues of unprofessionalism. Transitioning into such a well-established role was no easy feat, but after a year of portraying Armaan, Rohit shared his experience in an interview with Downtown Mirror Weekly.
Rohit Purohit confessed, “Honestly, I didn’t expect the transition to be so smooth. I knew I was stepping into a character that already had a strong connection with the audience, and that’s never easy. But thanks to the makers, the writing, and the love from the audience, I was able to ease into Armaan’s world. Their acceptance has been truly humbling.”
Rohit Purohit acknowledged the challenges of joining an ongoing show midway, especially when taking over a character with such a loyal fanbase. “It’s always tricky to join a show midway because of the pressure, the inevitable comparisons, and the responsibility to do justice to a character that viewers are already emotionally invested in. But I saw it as a challenge. I focused on bringing my own interpretation to Armaan while also respecting what had come before,” he explained.

Replacing an actor comes with its share of comparisons and criticism, but Rohit Purohit was mentally prepared to handle it. “Constructive criticism is part of growth. In the beginning, it was tough, especially with the comparisons, but I reminded myself that everyone has their own journey.
I read what fans say, reflect on it, and use it to improve. At the end of the day, I act because I love it, and that passion keeps me going. I am deeply grateful to our producer, Rajan Shahi Sir, for giving me this opportunity and believing in me. He’s a visionary producer, and being part of his creative universe is truly a blessing,” he said.
Reflecting on his most rewarding experience over the past year, Rohit Purohit shared, “The love I’ve received from fans for Armaan has been overwhelming. The most rewarding aspect is hearing how people connect with his emotional journey. As an actor, when your work touches people’s hearts, that’s the greatest reward.”
