Saanand Verma On His Love For Reading: Books Are Irreplaceable, They Shape Who You Are

Saanand Verma opens up about his lifelong love for literature, the books that shaped him, and how reading continues to influence his personal and professional journey.

Despite his busy life, he remains passionate about the irreplaceable value of books.

Known for bringing the eccentric Saxenaji to life in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, Saanand Verma has won hearts with his unique and memorable television roles.

Beyond his popular television roles, he has showcased his acting prowess in films including Vijay 69, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, and Babli Bouncer, and has ventured into OTT platforms with First Copy. But behind the actor’s eccentric on-screen persona lies a thoughtful, book-loving soul with a deep connection to literature.

I’m Very Fond Of Reading

“I’m very fond of reading,” he says, adding, “In fact, I started writing at a very young age, I wrote three novels when I was just 12 or 13. My father was a poet and a great literary figure, so literature has always been a part of my life. I even have a large personal library at home, where I’ve spent lakhs of rupees acquiring books.”

Although his schedule as an actor and singer keeps him busy, Saanand admits it’s been difficult to find as much reading time as he’d like. He says, “I need to watch performances and listen to music for my growth, which takes up a lot of time. But the love for books never goes away, I’m slowly getting back into the mindset of relaxing and reading again.”

Among his favourites is The Godfather by Mario Puzo. He shares, “I’ve gone back to it many times, and it continues to impress me. The storytelling, the complexity of the characters, and the emotional intensity are exceptional. The movie adaptation is also a masterpiece in the crime genre.”

Even In The Age Of Audiobooks and Binge-Worthy Content

However, the book that had the most profound impact on his life was Robin Sharma’s The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.

He says, “Before reading it, I was an angry, volatile person. That book transformed me. It taught me positivity, gratitude, and how to live in the moment. It helped calm my temperament and inspired me to lead a life centered around kindness, compassion, and joy.”

He’s also looking forward to the upcoming Kishore Kumar biopic, which he believes was inspired by a book. He says, “I admire Kishore Kumar deeply, so I’m really excited to see it.”

Even in the age of audiobooks and binge-worthy content, Saanand remains a staunch advocate for traditional reading.

“Books are irreplaceable. The imagination and depth they give you can never be matched by videos. Nothing compares to holding a book in your hand and immersing yourself in its world,” he concludes.
