Saanand Verma On Mental Health: We Must Talk, Listen, & Support Each Other

Actor Saanand Verma opens up about the importance of mental health, urging people to talk, listen, and support those in need.

He stresses that awareness and family involvement are key to helping individuals overcome depression and find balance in life.

Saanand Verma, best known for his iconic role as Saxenaji in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai, is celebrated for his eccentric humour on screen, but off screen, he carries a deeply compassionate and thoughtful perspective on life. In a heartfelt conversation, the actor spoke about the importance of mental health, awareness, and the vital role friends and family play in supporting those who are struggling.

“In my community and friend circle, we’re all happy people because we do what we love,” says Verma, adding, “But if someone is facing mental health issues, they should absolutely open up about it. We should talk, we should listen, and most importantly, we must support each other.”

The actor emphasizes the power of open conversations, explaining that silence often deepens the pain. He adds, “The more we talk about such issues, the better. Awareness is the first step toward resolution. And it’s the job of friends and family to stand by their loved ones.”

Verma strongly believes that depression can weaken people to a point where they can’t help themselves, which is why external support becomes crucial. He shares, “A depressed person can rarely heal alone, only a very small percentage manage to pull themselves out. The rest need genuine help. Friends and family should take them to a psychiatrist or counselor, encourage them, and help them find happiness again.”

He further stresses that identifying and addressing depression is a collective social duty. He says, “If we recognise someone around us struggling, we must act. That’s what family and friendship are for, to stand together through pain and healing.”

According to him, good mental health is the foundation of happiness. He says, “Depression is entirely linked to mental health. I’ve seen poor people who are happy because their minds are sound, and wealthy people who have everything yet feel miserable. If your mental health is strong, depression can’t touch you.”
