On World Theatre Day, Saanand Verma, known for his role as Anokhelal Saxena in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!, expressed his deep admiration for the world of theatre, reflecting on the invaluable impact it has had on his career. He recently took the stage in the play Dil Abhi Bharaa Nahin and shared his awe-inspiring experience. “Theatre truly prepares an actor like nothing else,” he said, adding, “It gives you the space to express emotions and showcase talent in its purest form. The connection with a live audience is something that no other medium can ever replicate.”

But it’s not just the act of performing that excites him. Saanand Verma is equally passionate about the magic that unfolds when he’s in the audience, enjoying a play. He mentioned a recent performance that left a lasting impression: “I thoroughly enjoyed Ek Main Aur Ek Two featuring Shweta Tiwari. It was an exquisite performance, and I loved every moment of it.”
Despite his deep love for theatre, Saanand Verma highlighted the financial hurdles faced by theatre artists in India. Unlike Broadway, where plays benefit from substantial budgets, Indian theatre often struggles with funding, making it hard for many performers to sustain their craft. “While filmmakers often receive government subsidies, theatre artists don’t get the same level of support,” he pointed out, and added, “This needs to change. Although theatre is not about earning big. It’s about staying true to your craft and expressing your art. But artists deserve financial stability so they can continue to pursue their passion without worry.”

Saanand Verma further underscored the foundational role theatre plays in the entertainment industry. “Without theatre, there would be no cinema,” he said. “Even today, performing on Broadway is considered a monumental achievement for top Hollywood actors. Theatre is the essence of storytelling, and it will never fade because of that,” he shared.
In closing, Saanand Verma urged the government to provide greater financial backing to the theatre community. “Theatre artists need more support so they can feel secure in their work. Technology might advance, but theatre will always remain relevant, respected, and vital to our cultural fabric.” The actor, who has also starred in films such as India Lockdown, Chhichhore, and Babli Bouncer, remains a steadfast advocate for the power and preservation of theatre.
