Sachin Kavetham opens up about how his approach to emotional acting has shifted from personal memories to deep character exploration.
He also reflects on the physical challenges he embraced for demanding roles, including extreme weight loss and intensive training.
Actor Sachin Kavetham, known for his performances in films like Single Salma and Full Plate, continues to evolve with each project he takes on. For him, every role is a learning opportunity, one that not only sharpens his craft but also deepens his understanding of himself as an artist. Over the years, he has realised that acting is not merely about delivering a performance but about peeling back layers of personal and emotional truth.

Shifting From Personal Memories To Character Depth
Sharing insights into his process for emotional scenes, Sachin revealed that he once relied heavily on personal memories to bring out tears on screen. He explained, “I used to tap on personal emotions for emotional scenes. When it was an emotional moment, I would think, ‘Okay, now I have to cry. What should I think of? Maybe my mom or dad dying, something that makes me sad.’ That helped me cry. But I’ve used this technique so many times that now it doesn’t work anymore.”
Over time, he transitioned to a more character-driven approach. “Now I go back into the character’s past and understand why he’s emotional. Why is he crying? Why is he breaking down? When I do that, it becomes easier for me to understand the character and pull off the emotional scene,” he added.
Physical Transformation & Dedication
Sachin’s commitment extends beyond emotional depth to physical transformation. Recalling his experience in the film Atkan Chetkan, he shared, “I had to lose about nine kilos and learn Khartal, a Rajasthani musical instrument. I would apply oil on my body and sit in the sun for almost an hour to get tanned. It was beautiful but also a very tough process.”
His approach reflects a mature and holistic understanding of acting, one that values authenticity, discipline, and the willingness to transform completely for a role.
