What’s it like to juggle between TV, carving a space out in films, and then looking for more to do?
Sanchita Ugale : Acting as field, is very unexpected, because you never know what will happen, what will work, and no one knows exactly.
I have to be a little smart about the industry standards and how to ensure I stand out, learn from my mistakes and other people’s mistakes and work on my weaknesses. That’s all I follow and choose good work, whether it’s in a film, on the web, in ads, or on television.
How fulfilling is your job as an actress? Do you ever find yourself thinking about what might come next?
Sanchita Ugale : It is something that every artist thinks — ‘what work will I get going forward, what’ll happen’, etc., I think that too, but I try my best not to overthink and give some time to the process to happen and to trust the process of the universe and the work I do, the actions I take, and fortunately,
Sanchita Ugale : Chhaava was my best experience to date as it is a larger-than-life film, and so the sets were huge, the crew was big, and even the actors were rock solid, known faces in the industry. It was an experienced team, so working with them was a learning experience — how it works at the bigger level and obviously, when you experience something at this level, it helps you a lot, even with ongoing projects. How true is it what people say about TV actresses finding a place for themself in films?
Sanchita Ugale : I feel finding a space for yourself in films is the same as finding space on television or any medium. I feel the medium is different, but the process is the same — you give an audition, get selected and then get to work…
Tell us more about working on TV, your journey so far, and what it’s like on the sets of Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi?
Sanchita Ugale : As an artist, the experience I have to date, my job is to choose good work, give an audition for it and portray the character. I am focusing on the good works as of now, not on the medium, to be honest. As an outsider, it is really difficult to crack the lead role in films directly, so I have to go step by step, as I know, and this is the honest reality of our industry.
