“This Role Is Everything I Grew Up Loving,” Says Simron Upadhyay On Entering The World Of Sports Presenting

Simron Upadhyay steps into sports presenting as the digital insider for the Chennai Smashers, merging her lifelong passion for tennis with her storytelling skills.

Simron Upadhyay, known for Noyontara and previously seen in Rabb Se Hai Dua, has dived into a new arena as the digital insider and presenter for Chennai Smashers in the Tennis Premier League. The opportunity, she says, feels like a natural extension of everything she has cherished growing up.

Simron recalls how her love for sports began early. She shares, “I have been a huge Roger Federer fan since I was around 10 or 11 years old. That love slowly extended to cricket and then to almost every other sport. Sports have always given me joy, friendships, conversations, and a sense of peace.”

Her journey into sports content creation was sparked at home. She says, “Seeing digital media evolve, I felt it was the perfect time to start sharing my passion for sports with a wider audience. It was actually my mother who pushed me into it. She has seen me be an obsessive sports fan all my life, so she suggested that I should start talking about it because it comes naturally to me. I followed her advice, and that led to sports collaborations, people appreciating my views, and my knack for storytelling. So everything is happening because of my mom.”

When the Tennis Premier League approached her, Simron didn’t hesitate. She says, “For me, being attached to a single team and feeling their highs and lows was far more meaningful than covering an entire tournament. Being with a team is more personal; you feel their wins and losses. Since tennis has always been one of my top two sports and I have played it as a hobby, this role felt like the perfect fit.”

As she takes on the role of bridging fans with the team, Simron is focused on making the sport feel accessible. She shares, “My focus has been on breaking down tennis so it feels approachable and engaging for people here. Unfortunately, tennis is still not a mainstream, everyday sport here. So I’m trying to speak in a language that feels familiar and engaging to the audience.”

A major part of her role involves spotlighting the Chennai Smashers’ players. She says, “A big part of my job is bringing the stories of our players, Rithvik Bollipalli, Irina Bara, and Dalibor Svrcina, to the audience. Their journeys are inspiring, and I want people to connect with them, understand what drives them, and become invested in their matches and personalities.”

For Simron, this project marks a significant transition. “This is my first official project in the world of sports, so it already stands apart. As an actor, I’m usually the one answering questions. But as a digital presenter, I’m the one framing the questions, analysing matches, understanding strategies, studying players, and carrying the responsibility of simplifying the sport for the audience. It’s a completely different kind of creativity, and that’s what excites me,” she concludes.

With her passion for tennis, her instinct for storytelling, and her drive to make the sport more relatable, Simron steps into this new chapter with both excitement and intent. For her, the Tennis Premier League isn’t just a hosting gig, it’s a chance to merge her creativity with a love she has carried since childhood.
