Aarti Kakkar on International Women’s Day: True Empowerment Begins with Respect for Women in Everyday Life
As the world celebrates International Women’s Day with appreciation posts, campaigns, and events, tarot card reader and energy healer Aarti Kakkar believes the occasion should be a moment of deeper reflection rather than just celebration.
“Each year, Women’s Day brings with it celebrations and heartfelt messages recognising women. While these gestures are meaningful, for me this day is more about reflection than celebration,” Aarti Kakkar says.

Aarti Kakkar Says Women’s Day Should Be a Moment of Reflection
Drawing attention to cultural beliefs in India, Aarti Kakkar highlights the contrast between spiritual reverence for goddesses and the reality many women experience in everyday life. “Our culture celebrates divine feminine power through the worship of goddesses such as Durga and Kali. They represent strength, protection, transformation, and divine feminine energy. Temples are filled with devotion for these goddesses, and their power is deeply respected. But somewhere, when we step out of the temple and return to everyday life, that same respect is not always visible for the women around us,” she explains.
According to Aarti Kakkar, women embody the very essence of creation and life. “Women are the source of creation. Every life begins through a woman. Even the natural cycles of a woman reflect the rhythm of nature and creation itself. In many ancient traditions, this cycle was considered sacred because it symbolises the power to create life,” she says.
The Contrast Between Worshipping Goddesses and Respecting Women
While acknowledging the remarkable progress women have made across professions, she believes the reality on the ground is still layered and complex. “Today we proudly say that women are progressing. We see women becoming leaders, entrepreneurs, police officers, soldiers protecting the borders, and professionals across industries. This progress is beautiful and inspiring. But if we honestly look deeper into society, especially in India, the picture is more complex,” Aarti Kakkar notes.
She points out that many women contribute financially to their families yet do not always have full independence in decision-making. “Many women are now earning their own income and playing an important role in supporting their families. However, in many situations, their hard-earned money is still controlled by families or husbands. They may be contributing equally or even more, yet their independence in decision-making is limited,” Aarti Kakkar observes.
Why Real Empowerment Must Begin Within Homes
At the same time, Aarti Kakkar emphasizes the often overlooked contribution of homemakers. “There are many women who selflessly devote their lives to their families while managing their homes. Housewives carry immense responsibility — managing homes, nurturing children, and emotionally holding families together. Their work may not be measured in salaries, but its value is immeasurable,” she says.
Through her work as a tarot reader and energy healer, Aarti Kakkar says she has witnessed how many women silently carry emotional burdens despite appearing strong. “What I have often observed in my personal interactions and through my work is that many women who appear strong on the outside are silently carrying emotional struggles inside. They are balancing expectations from every direction — family, society, work, and motherhood — while sometimes forgetting their own identity,” she explains.
For Aarti Kakkar, true empowerment begins with a shift in mindset within homes and families. “Empowerment is not limited to the opportunities women receive outside the home. It will come when mindsets inside homes change as well— when women are respected not only as mothers, daughters, or wives, but also as individuals with their own dreams, identity, and voice,” she says.
Summing up her thoughts, she believes Women’s Day should inspire people to honor the divine feminine in everyday life. She explained, “For me, Women’s Day goes beyond celebration and reminds us of something deeper. If we truly believe in the power of the divine feminine, then we must learn to honor that same power in the women around us — and within ourselves.”
