Peace, Liberation, and Emotional Healing: Pooja Seth Shares Benefits Of Tārak Meditation

Pooja Seth, healer and reiki practitioner, has shared the beautiful meaning and essence of Tārak Meditation, an ancient practice that guides one from illusion to truth and from bondage to liberation. She revealed that it was Lord Shiva who revealed the Tarak Mantra as a means to attain moksha (liberation).

She said, “The word Tārak (Sanskrit: तारक) means ‘the one who helps you cross ‘over’, from ignorance to wisdom, from illusion to truth, from bondage to liberation. So, Tārak Meditation literally means ‘the meditation that helps you cross the ocean of illusion and reach divine consciousness.'”

“In essence, Tārak Meditation connects the meditator with the inner divine light, the Self (Atman),” she added.

Sharing the benefits of Tārak meditation, she said that it brings the mind into a state of stillness, beyond thoughts and emotions, connects you with your immortal Self, your true consciousness that never dies and helps you cross over pain, karmic patterns, and illusions.

She added, “It enhances clarity and intuition as the mind quiets; inner wisdom and intuition begin to flow naturally. It activates higher consciousness, which works on the Ajna Chakra (Third Eye), awakening insight and spiritual awareness. It promotes emotional healing, and when practiced regularly, it dissolves negative emotions and strengthens peace and compassion.”

Pooja also revealed how Tārak Meditation can be practiced and said that though there are different methods depending on lineage, she has shared a general approach. She said, “In a quiet space, sit with your spine erect, either cross-legged or on a chair. Gently bring your attention to the space between your eyebrows (Ajna chakra). As you relax, a faint light or feeling of presence may arise. Don’t force, just observe. Then either chant or mentally repeat a Tārak Mantra or silently repeat I am light / I am that I am. Gradually, thoughts dissolve, and awareness expands. Rest in that silence for as long as possible.”

She advised that even if it is done 10–20 minutes daily, it is powerful. She added, “Choose a calm, sacred space. Maintain regular breathing, slow and gentle. Sit with your spine straight (energy alignment is key). If a mantra is used, pronounce it mentally, not aloud. After meditation, rest quietly before returning to activity.”

There are, of course, some things that should be avoided during Tārak Meditation. She said, “Don’t force concentration, it’s about allowing, not controlling. Don’t chase visions or light; they are side effects, not the goal. Don’t practice immediately after eating a heavy meal. Don’t compare your experience with others, it’s deeply personal. Don’t mix it with aggressive breathwork unless guided by a teacher.”

Pooja concluded, “Tārak Meditation is not about escaping the world, it’s about crossing the illusion of separation and realizing the divine that already lives within you.”
