Deekshha Sonalkar Tham shares her take on why reality TV, with shows like Bigg Boss 19 and Rise and Fall, is gaining popularity over fiction.
She points to repetitive storytelling in daily soaps as a major reason for the shift in audience interest.
Known for her work in popular shows like Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye, Tenali Rama, Choices, and Hasmukh, actress Deekshha Sonalkar Tham recently opened up about the rising dominance of reality television and why it’s gaining more attention than traditional fiction dramas.
With shows like Bigg Boss 19 and Rise and Fall currently making waves on television, Deekshha Sonalkar Tham shared her perspective on why audiences are increasingly gravitating toward reality content. She believes the trend is partly driven by the repetitive and predictable nature of many fiction series today.
“Unfortunately, our fiction shows have started lacking exciting narratives. They begin with a bang but eventually fall into familiar patterns, either clashing leads or another love triangle. I wouldn’t say all shows follow this formula, but the majority do. When viewers start feeling a sense of déjà vu, they naturally seek something fresh and engaging, which is where reality TV steps in,” Deekshha Sonalkar Tham explained.
Despite the growing buzz around reality television, Deekshha Sonalkar Tham admits she’s never been an avid viewer herself. “Personally, I’ve never been too drawn to reality shows. If it’s a dance competition, maybe I’ll get hooked,” she added with a smile.
However, she does have a reason to tune in now. “My dear friend Aahana Kumra is part of the newly launched Rise and Fall, so I’ll definitely be watching that for her,” she said warmly.
As reality shows continue to dominate prime-time slots, it’s clear they’re offering viewers a break from formulaic fiction and artists like Deekshha Sonalkar Tham are taking note.
