Rinku Dhawan on Her 20-Year Dream of Working with Rajan Shahi Finally Coming True with Anupamaa
“For 20 years I wished to work with him,” says actress Rinku Dhawan, who is currently seen as Rajni in Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi’s show Anupamaa. For her, this long-awaited collaboration with producer Rajan Shahi feels like destiny finally choosing the perfect moment. She shares that she has known Rajan Shahi for many years, and somewhere in her heart she always wished to work under his banner.
A Long-Cherished Wish to Work Under Rajan Shahi’s Banner
Rinku recalls one of her earliest memories connected to him. She says she attended the screening of Bidaai because her younger sister Ashita Dhawan was part of the show, and that was probably the first time she met Rajan Shahi. From that day onward, she silently hoped to be part of his team as an actor. She even visited his office a few times in earlier years to express this desire. With a smile she adds that times were different then and producers would easily meet actors.
Talking about how Anupamaa finally came into her life, Rinku says the moment was filled with emotion and warmth. Just before Diwali, she had messaged people in her contacts asking for work, and Rajan Shahi kindly replied. She called him and told him that she had been following up with him for almost 20 years. Jokingly she compared herself to Sridevi in Khuda Gawah, repeatedly saying, “He will come, he will come,” which made Rajan Shahi burst into laughter. For her, that moment felt truly blessed.
In November, when the final call came from his office, it felt magical. She says his team is extremely sweet, humble, and respectful, and she believes a good team always reflects the nature of its leader.
Describing the experience of working with Rajan Shahi, Rinku says that he is not just a good leader but a great one. A good leader makes people believe in the leader, while a great leader makes people believe in themselves, and that is exactly how working with Directors Kut Productions and Rajan Shahi feels for her.
Looking back at the long wait, Rinku smiles and says the jinx has finally broken with Anupamaa. She believes everything happens at the right time, and with a joyful heart she adds, “Mujhe mera Baadshah Khan mil gaya.”
