The big SUVs are coming in and there are two new SUVs which are ready to take on the mighty Toyota Fortuner. For many, the Fortuner is the current benchmark and remains one of the biggest sellers in this class. For years the Fortuner has been a hot favourite amongst buyers for its reliability and the capabilities. Now, there are two new rivals which are in the same price segment.
First is the MG Majestor which is even larger than the Fortuner and will be coming in a few days time. The Majestor will be powered by a massive diesel engine as well and will be packed with a lot of features. The twin turbo diesel will be standard with an automatic gearbox along with 4×4. It will be sold along with the Gloster and would be the most premium SUV by JSW MG. The Majestor would be aimed as a more premium SUV and will be positioned exactly as that in a segment dominated by the Toyota Fortuner. Here, the Majestor has more size and is larger which helps.
At the other end is the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line which is a sportier 3 row SUV. It will be priced much lower than the Fortuner but will be placed as a premium 3 row SUV. The Tayron R-Line is the first of the many new launches for Volkswagen India. It is the 3 row version of the Tiguan while having a longer wheelbase too. The Tayron R-Line unlike the Fortuner or Majestor will come with a petrol engine only being a turbocharged engine.
The focus here is on dynamics with more car-like driving experience unlike the larger Majestor and the Fortuner. It is a long SUV and will come with premium features like 3 zone climate control, a massive touchscreen and more on the inside plus massage seats as well like the Majestor. While not as large as the other two SUVs, the Tayron R-Line is focussed to be a premium SUV for the city and road trips instead of being a classic butch SUV like the other two.
Till now the Toyota Fortuner has been ruling the roost and has been very popular while now the entry of these two new SUVs will mean a new challenge for the big Toyota. It will be interesting to see which new SUV sells more in this premium space where buyers want everything for their money.
