Sidharrth Sipani opens up about the emotional toll of constant negative news and the importance of maintaining mental balance.
He shares practical tips on how to stay informed without compromising mental well-being.
Actor Sidharrth Sipani, best known for his roles in Fariha and Zee TV’s Zindagi Ki Mehak, says the constant news about tragedies like floods, accidents, mob violence, and cruelty towards humans and animals—can be emotionally draining and mentally exhausting.
He shared, “In today’s world, being bombarded with news of tragedies can profoundly affect one’s mental well-being. As someone in the public eye, I often feel the emotional weight of these events. It’s natural to empathise with the suffering of others, and the cumulative effect of constant negativity can lead to feelings of helplessness and despair.”
Sidharrth Sipani emphasised the importance of acknowledging these feelings and validating emotional responses. He said, “However, It’s also crucial to seek balance and protect our mental health while staying informed.”
Sidharrth noted how the relentless awareness of such tragic events can become overwhelming. He said, “While being informed is important, the continuous stream of negative news might lead to anxiety and desensitisation. It’s like constantly holding a mirror up to the darker side of our world without always having a way to make a difference.”
“Most people feel powerless, as not everyone can directly engage in relief efforts or activism for every situation. The challenge lies in cultivating compassion and awareness without being consumed by hopelessness,” Sidharrth Sipani added.
On a personal level, Sidharrth Sipani copes by focusing on what he can control. He said, “I allow myself to feel for those affected, but I also remind myself to be grateful for the good in my life. Engaging in activities that bring me joy like acting, spending time with loved ones, or practicing mindfulness helps me maintain emotional balance.”
He added, “I try to support causes I believe in, whether through donations or awareness campaigns, to shift some of that negative energy into something positive.”
When asked what steps individuals can take to strike a balance between staying informed and maintaining peace of mind, he suggested.
Sidharrth Sipani said, “Limit your news exposure to specific times during the day and choose reliable sources over sensational ones. Engage in practices that promote mental wellness, such as meditation, physical activity, or spending time in nature. Talking about your feelings with a friend, community, or therapist can also be beneficial.”
“Finally, taking small positive actions within our communities can create a sense of agency and hope. Even small contributions can lead to meaningful change. In essence, staying informed doesn’t have to come at the cost of our mental health. It’s about finding that sweet spot where we can care, act, and protect our well-being at the same time,” Sidharrth Sipani concluded.
