Deadly Accident at Surajkund Mela in Faridabad

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad, Haryana, when an amusement ride suddenly broke down and collapsed. The accident resulted in the death of a police inspector Jagdish Prasad and left more than a dozen people injured.

According to officials, Police Inspector was standing near the swing when it collapsed and a part of it crushed him.  Around 13 injured people were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Swing Malfunctioned While Carrying 14–15 People

Eyewitnesses told news agency PTI that the ride got stuck at a height, causing panic among the passengers. People began screaming for help as bystanders rushed to assist. Some riders were pulled down safely, but moments later, the railing gave way and collapsed, causing multiple people to fall.

At the time of the incident, around 14 to 15 people were on the ride.

13 Injured, One Dead Confirmed

Authorities confirmed that at least nine people were injured in the accident, while reports suggest the total number of injured may be over a dozen. Tragically, a police inspector lost his life in the mishap, marking the incident as one of the most serious accidents at this year’s fair.

In response to the tragic swing collapse, the Faridabad Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Varun Dahiya. The move comes after the state government ordered a detailed probe into the incident, aiming to understand what went wrong and ensure accountability.

Earlier Incident Raises Safety Concerns

This was the second major accident reported at the Surajkund Mela on the same day. Earlier, Gate Number 2 of the venue collapsed, injuring two people. Although no one was critically hurt in that incident, the back-to-back mishaps have raised serious questions about safety arrangements at the event.
