Rahul Sharma reflects on his connection with the Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai cast and reveals how closely his real-life personality aligns with that of his on-screen character, Anshuman.
The actor also reflects on why off-screen comfort plays a vital role in delivering powerful on-screen moments.
A strong off-screen camaraderie often becomes the invisible glue that holds a performance together on-screen—especially in long-running television shows, where chemistry between characters plays a crucial role in storytelling. For the cast of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, that behind-the-scenes bond is more than just a bonus—it’s a key ingredient in the show’s emotional authenticity. Speaking about his experience joining the cast, actor Rahul Sharma shares how welcoming the set has been from day one.
Rahul Sharma says, “The set of YRKKH has honestly been one of the most welcoming I’ve experienced. Everyone—from the core cast to the crew—has made the transition really smooth for me.”
Rahul Sharma makes special mention of the strong working rapport he’s built with Samridhii Shukla, who portrays Abhira in the popular series. “I’ve had some great interactions with Samridhii; she’s very grounded and focused, which makes working with her very collaborative,” he shares.
And it doesn’t stop there—he’s found warmth and support across the board. Rahul Sharma says, “I also share a good rapport with Rohit (Purohit), Anita Raaj Ji, Shruti Ulfat Ji, and Preeti Choudhary Ji. They bring such warmth and experience, it naturally puts you at ease. Having that comfort off-camera helps immensely in delivering emotionally honest scenes on camera.”
Recently, co-star Samridhii Shukla described him as being very similar to his on-screen persona, Anshuman—a calm and composed presence. Reflecting on her comment, he offers an insightful comparison between himself and the character. Rahul Sharma says, “That’s really kind of her to mention! I think there are definitely overlaps between me and Anshuman. He’s calm, composed, and thoughtful—and those are qualities I relate to.”
But while there are similarities, there are also key differences. “Like Anshuman, I believe in clear communication and try to approach situations with maturity. He’s also someone who observes more than he reacts, and I’d say that’s very me,” Rahul Sharma adds.
Still, the differences are just as telling.
Rahul Sharma notes, “Where we differ is probably in how restrained he can be. I’m a little more expressive and spontaneous in real life. Also, Anshuman has this ‘all-knowing’ zen energy, while I’m still very much a work-in-progress!”
With a strong bond off-screen and a deep understanding of his character, it’s no surprise that Rahul’s performance translates so effortlessly on-screen. For him, connection—whether with the role or his co-stars—is the secret to making it all feel real.
