Rajniesh Duggall opens up about his intimate, eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations rooted in love and tradition.
From childhood memories to mindful rituals, he shares how Bappa brings peace, unity, and purpose to his life.
As the festive spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi lights up Mumbai, actor Rajniesh Duggall, known for his roles in 1920, Dangerous Ishq, Samrat & Co., Laal Rang, and Wajah Tum Ho, offers a glimpse into his deeply personal and eco-conscious celebrations.
For Us, Ganesh Chaturthi Is Not About Grandeur
The actor, who will soon be seen portraying a Dalit character in Bagawat (Shudra-2), shares how the festival holds a special place in his heart, rooted in simplicity and soulful tradition.
“For us, Ganesh Chaturthi is not about grandeur,” Rajniesh Duggall says, adding, “It’s just Bappa and us. That’s the way we celebrate, simple, soulful, and personal.”
Talking about a unique family tradition, he shares, “We do a visarjan on our terrace, in a tub or big bucket. The mitti ke Ganesh slowly and gradually melt over three to four days. After that, we pour the remains, mitti and water, into our garden and plants. It feels beautiful to give back to nature.”
Rajniesh Duggall also shares how experiencing Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai was eye-opening.
He says “Coming from Delhi, I’d only known small, quiet poojas at home. Seeing the grand pandals, the variety of idols, and the creative themes people come up with here, it was completely new for me. From eco-friendly idols to elaborate artistic concepts, the way the festival is celebrated on such a big scale was fascinating, and I’m really glad we got to witness and be part of it.”
While Mumbai is known for its magnificent pandals and grand processions, Rajniesh Duggall finds the true essence of the festival in quiet devotion.
“Over the years, I’ve seen how big the celebrations can get in Mumbai, but what I love is the intimacy at home. There’s something pure and peaceful about it, a direct connection with Bappa that you can feel deeply,” he says.
Of course, no festival is complete without food. “Modak is a must,” he says with a smile, adding, “I also love puran poli and all the other festive sweets that take me back to childhood memories.”
He appreciates how the entire city transforms during Ganesh Chaturthi. “The city bursts with vibrance, filled with rhythm, excitement, and a powerful feeling of togetherness. Even strangers feel connected because Bappa brings everyone together,” he observes.
I Pray That Bappa Blesses Every Home With Love, Health, and Positivity
When asked about passing on traditions to the younger generation, Rajniesh Duggall emphasises involvement. He says, “Let kids take part in every step, making the idol, decorating, cooking, singing aarti. When they are part of it, the festival becomes theirs too, and the bond with Bappa grows naturally.”
He also stresses the importance of celebrating responsibly. “Eco-friendly celebrations are the way forward. Handmade idols, natural decorations, small steps like these make a big difference to our environment,” he says.
Ending on a heartfelt note, Rajniesh Duggall shares his wish: “Peace and happiness for everyone. I pray that Bappa blesses every home with love, health, and positivity. That’s all I really want.”
