Shivangi Verma: Social Media Is A Powerful Tool-Use It To Uplift, Not Undermine

Shivangi Verma offers a deep and balanced take on the pros and cons of social media in today’s world.

While acknowledging its ability to connect and empower, she also calls out its darker, dangerous side.

In an era where social media dominates conversation, connection, and even careers, actress Shivangi Verma offers a refreshingly grounded and thoughtful perspective on its growing influence.

Known for her roles in Tera Ishq Mera Fitoor, Choti Sarrdaarni, and the film Badass Ravi Kumar

Shivangi Verma is soon to appear opposite Sharad Malhotra in an upcoming OTT series. But beyond the spotlight, she’s deeply aware of how social media is shaping society—for better or worse.

Reflecting on its immense reach, she explains, “Social media has become a powerful tool-one that rests in the hands of every individual, much like money or other forms of influence.”

She emphasises that such influence demands a strong sense of individual accountability. Shivangi Verma says, “Its impact depends entirely on how we choose to use it. Like any influential tool, its impact depends on whether it’s used to build or to harm.”

Shivangi Verma adds, “Even though governments have introduced certain regulations, we still see several unfortunate incidents, especially during the making of reels. Some people go to dangerous lengths just to go viral, risking their lives or resorting to cheap publicity that ultimately damages their moral integrity.”

She also raises concerns about the kind of content gaining traction online. Shivangi Verma says, “There are videos that go viral for the wrong reasons—like uncomfortable or inappropriate content, including some deeply unsettling reels portraying odd dynamics between family members. They are disturbing and disheartening.”

Despite these challenges, Shivangi Verma acknowledges the potential of social platforms to expand horizons and foster connections. She says, “Earlier, people living in small towns or villages had limited social circles—mostly confined to their immediate community or distant relatives. But now, thanks to social media, our networks have grown far beyond geographical boundaries.”

Yet with this broadened reach comes a heightened sense of responsibility.

Shivangi Verma concludes, “This increased exposure also brings greater responsibility. Individuals must be mindful of their behavior and align it with both personal values and societal norms. We are part of a larger ecosystem, and maintaining a basic level of discipline is essential to avoid discomfort-for ourselves and for others.”
