Success Can Be Thrilling, But It’s Not Always Synonymous with Happiness: Simaran Kaur On True Joy

Actress Simaran Kaur shares how her journey has shaped a deeper understanding of happiness rooted in gratitude, balance, and peace.

She opens up about the difference between fleeting success and lasting joy, urging others to find meaning beyond achievements.

Jamai No. 1 actress Simaran Kaur, who has also been part of shows like Aghori, Agniphera, Aggar Tum Na Hote, Tose Naina Milaike, and famously voiced Nobita in Doraemon, believes that happiness is a deeply personal and layered journey. The actress, who has carved a niche for herself across television and voice acting, opens up about what happiness truly means to her.

Reflecting on the nature of happiness, Simaran Kaur shares, “Happiness is a deeply personal and subjective experience. Over the years, I’ve learned to feel content and grateful for what I have, even when life isn’t perfect. I discover the deepest joy in quiet, everyday experiences that often go unnoticed.”

Simaran Kaur emphasises the value of everyday experiences—moments that may seem small but hold emotional richness. “Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, hitting personal milestones, or simply being in a happy relationship, I’ve learned there’s no universal definition of happiness,” she says, adding, “Your outlook plays a huge role. Learning to find happiness in the smallest gestures is the greatest blessing. It’s about discovering fulfillments and balance in your own unique way.”

Simaran Kaur also reflects on how her perspective has shifted over time.

She shares, “From savouring my favorite food, to playing with my puppy, to learning a new skill—I’ve started embracing the journey instead of obsessing over the destination. Each experience adds depth and meaning to my sense of happiness.”

She underlines the importance of inner peace and self-contentment as the foundation of lasting happiness. Simaran Kaur says, “Personally, I’ve found that when I’m at peace with myself and satisfied with my life and efforts, happiness comes more naturally. I truly relate to Mahatma Gandhi’s quote, ‘Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment.’ It reminds me that genuine happiness comes from being proud of the journey, regardless of the outcome.”

However, she also makes a powerful distinction between success and happiness, warning against conflating the two. Simaran Kaur admits, “There have been moments where I achieved career goals and expected to feel ecstatic, but the joy was short-lived.”

“Success can be thrilling, but it’s not always synonymous with happiness. True joy, I believe, lies in aligning your life with your values, nurturing meaningful relationships, and staying grounded in the present. Ultimately, it’s learning to strike harmony between chasing goals and taking care of yourself,” Simaran Kaur concludes.
