As India celebrates its 77th Republic Day, Anupamaa actress Shiwani Chakraborty shares her deep emotional connection with the nation and the values that shape her love for the country.
Calling the day extremely special, Shiwani Chakraborty says, “It is a very proud moment for me. Whether it is 26th January or 15th August, I feel equally attached to these days. I am the granddaughter of a great freedom fighter, Nagendra Mohan Chakravarti, and that itself makes me feel responsible and proud.”
Love and Respect For The Country Is In My Blood
She adds that her grandfather was also a Tamra Patra holder, which is a huge honour for her family. “He even lost one of his lungs for India. So for me, these days are not just holidays. This love and respect for the country is in my blood,” Shiwani Chakraborty says.
Talking about India’s growth, the actress adds, “India is progressing and developing, and it makes me happy. But we should all remember our responsibility as citizens. Even small steps taken by us can help the whole system.” Shiwani Chakraborty believes respecting freedom and the Constitution should be part of everyday life and not limited to flag hoisting on one day.
Sharing her childhood Republic Day memories, Shiwani Chakraborty says, “We used to celebrate in school, wearing white uniforms and attending flag hoisting. At that time, it felt like fun because of our child mentality. But my father always told me the real stories of freedom fighters. That made me realise how lucky I am to belong to such a family.”
When asked what she loves most about India, Shiwani Chakraborty smiles and replies, “Indians are very helpful. Their doors are always open for each other.” She adds, “And our festivals! They are so colourful and full of life. We forget religion and language and just celebrate together with full enthusiasm.”
Shiwani Chakraborty signs off by saying, “There are countless reasons to love India, but these two things are closest to my heart.”
