Celebrity stylist and actress Riddhima Sharma introduces a unique Indo-Western fusion by pairing an Indian-inspired hoodie with dhoti pants, blending traditional Rajasthani fabrics with modern silhouettes.
Celebrity stylist Riddhima Sharma, who has worked with Mannara Chopra, Riya Sen, Pooja Chopra, Falaq Naaz, Sanjay Gangnani, and cricketer Vaibhav Arora, and has also been featured in singles Saahiba and other Sapna Jahaan, has created a new concept of pairing an Indian-inspired hoodie with dhoti pants. Because of the fabric and details on the hoodie, it can be styled in so many ways and for so many different occasions.
Talking about the concept, she said, “I’m enamoured with Indian traditional outfits, especially Rajasthani sarees and fabrics. During a conversation with my aunt (Masi) about clothing, we brainstormed creating something unique and royal. We decided to fuse traditional elements with modern styles, resulting in an Indian-inspired hoodie with dhoti pants, crafted from Rajasthani patchwork fabric.”
“While Western hoodies are popular, I wanted to create something unique by fusing Indian and Western styles. Inspired by a hoodie contest, I decided to transform the traditional hoodie into an Indian look by pairing it with dhoti pants. My goal was to showcase Indian traditional style with a modern twist. This idea allowed me to experiment and blend cultural aesthetics. You can wear it with shorts, pants, skirts, or dhoti and create lots of new styles,” she added.
As someone who is drawn to traditional Indian artistry, Riddhima is experimenting with different fabrics while creating an India-inspired hoodie with dhoti pants. She said, “I source fabrics from Jodhpur and Jaipur and am drawn to patchwork and Jaipuri prints. I’m particularly fond of silk fabrics. My design process involves creating a concept and then sourcing materials from the old cities of Jodhpur. Currently, I’m working with silk Banarasi and famous Rajasthani prints, exploring their intricate beauty and cultural significance.”
Famous creator and influencer Sukhmani Gambhir styled the Indian hoodie with different looks. Wearing an Indian hoodie, she showcased its versatility with various styles. Riddhima said, “Sukhmani is a perfect style icon for my Indian outfit design. She effortlessly styles it with different looks, bringing my concept to life. She loved the outfit and my new design idea.”
Though she agrees that everyone has their own unique personal style, which often depends on the occasion, she feels an Indo-Western outfit is very versatile. She said, “For instance, an Indo-Western outfit can be perfect for a wedding sangeet. Ultimately, simplicity is the most timeless and elegant fashion choice, as it exudes authenticity and effortless charm.”
And her favourite look would be “pairing sarees with Kundan chokers and Rajasthani Borla, which creates a stunning look,” she said.
Sharing three tips to complete an Indo-Western look, Riddhima said, “An Indian hoodie can be worn with dhoti pants or shimmer pants; you can wear the Banarasi draped dhoti with a crop top and complete the look with a polki bag, or you can wear Banarasi flared pants with a Banarasi blazer and complete the look with Kundan jewelry.”
