Inn Galiyon Mein Actress Namita Lal: Life Experiences are the Best Teachers for an Artist

From leaving behind a successful corporate career to returning to her true passion—acting—Namita Lal’s journey has come full circle. Known for her roles in projects like Lihaaf, Football-The Goal, and Oxygen, Namita will soon be seen in Inn Galiyon Mein, starring Jaaved Jaaferi, Avantika Dasani, and Vivaan Shah. Reflecting on her love for acting, she shares, “It all started in college when I was at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. I loved being on stage and participated in a big production at the Kamani Auditorium, which became my passion in my first year. Though I wanted to pursue acting, I chose to settle into a career first. I became a banker and traveled internationally, but acting never left my heart.”

In 2015, while still working as a banker in Singapore, Namita got the opportunity to reconnect with acting through a significant role in a major theatre production. This experience reignited her love for acting, leading her to perform in twelve more theatre productions across Singapore, Mumbai, and London.

“Though I enjoyed my career in banking, I realized that acting was my true calling,” she says. In 2019, she took the leap and transitioned to acting full-time. “I feel grateful for the diverse experiences my banking career gave me — working in places like London, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, and helping businesses grow. These experiences, both professionally and personally, helped me develop a deeper understanding of human nature, which I bring into my acting.”

Namita believes her life experiences have made her a better actor. “An artist learns best through life experiences. Being a mother and daughter has enriched my understanding of emotions. When I first performed, people assumed I had formal training because of how authentic my performance seemed. That was a huge compliment. Though I’ve taken acting workshops in Singapore and India, I think my life experiences have been my greatest asset in acting,” she shares.
