Joining a long-running show midway presents its own set of challenges. It takes time not just to connect with the loyal audience but also to build rapport with the established cast. Shiwani Chakraborty, who entered Rajan Shahi’s Anupamaa in January as Meeta Kothari, acknowledges these hurdles.
She says, “Being part of an ongoing show was definitely a unique challenge. Stepping into a storyline that’s already in motion requires immense effort to seamlessly integrate into the narrative. The audience already has their favourites, so establishing a place for my character takes extra effort. Moreover, understanding the layers of Meeta Kothari and bringing her to life with depth was something I had to focus on from day one.”

She believes maintaining consistency in her portrayal while adding her own unique touch to Meeta has struck a chord with the audience. The actress also talks about the importance of chemistry with co-stars. “Building relationships with the cast members was another challenge, but thankfully, everyone was incredibly warm and supportive. Over time, it became easier to create meaningful connections with them.”
Reflecting on her experience on set, she adds, “The environment on set feels like a family. I’ve forged strong bonds with my co-stars, and that warmth makes each day enjoyable.”
When asked about working with Rupali Ganguly, the leading lady of Anupamaa, Shiwani’s admiration is clear. “Collaborating with Rupali ma’am has been an inspiring experience. Her career speaks for itself — she’s an actress who has truly made a mark over the years. What stands out the most is her ability to handle both praise and criticism with such grace. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her journey, her passion and commitment to her craft have always shone through. Watching her perform is a lesson in itself — it feels like attending an acting masterclass. Rupali ma’am’s humility and professionalism are as remarkable as her talent. She’s always been supportive, encouraging, and incredibly grounded. To be able to share the screen with someone of her caliber is a privilege, and her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a television icon is truly inspiring.”
