Urmila Sharma opens up about her passion for comedy, the challenges behind making people laugh, and why she believes clean, family-friendly humour still strikes the strongest chord with audiences.
To Urmila Sharma, each ripple of laughter is like applause from the soul — proof that her performance has touched hearts through joy. Currently winning hearts in Binaiffer and Sanjay Kohli’s much-loved comedy show Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, Urmila believes that humour holds the power to transform lives, even if just for a few minutes.
“Laughter means everything to me! When people laugh at my scenes, it feels like I’ve done my job well. It makes me so happy to know I’ve made someone’s day better,” Urmila Sharma shares with a warm smile.
Urmila Sharma adds, “I’ve been lucky to do funny roles in shows like Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, Mann Sundar and FIR. I still enjoy it every single day on the set.”
In an era where life seems to be constantly speeding up, Urmila Sharma feels comedy is more necessary than ever. Urmila Sharma says, “Life has become so fast and stressful that we forget to smile sometimes. That’s why laughter is so important. It gives us a break and makes us feel lighter. Even a few minutes of laughing can lift your mood and change your whole day.”
While many may believe that comedy is the “easy” genre, Urmila Sharma begs to differ. She asserts, “Many actors want to try comedy because it’s fun. But trust me, comedy is not easy! Getting someone to cry is easy — but making them laugh takes true craft. You need good timing, the right expressions, and a lot of energy. It’s challenging, but also very rewarding.”
Urmila Sharma credits her continued success in the genre to audiences who still crave simple, clean, and relatable humour—something they can enjoy as a family. “I love situational comedy — like things happening in a funny family or neighbourhood — always works,” she says, adding, “That’s why shows like Happu Ki Ultan Paltan and Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! are still loved so much.”
Whether it’s her comic timing or her ability to bring warmth to every scene, Urmila Sharma’s joy in performing comedy is clearly infectious—and that’s exactly what keeps viewers coming back for more.
