Shilpa Shinde reflects on the enduring impact of her iconic role as Angoori Bhabhi, admitting it would be tough to recreate that magic. The actress opens up about why she’s selective with TV roles and the lack of freshness in today’s content.
Shilpa Shinde has captivated viewers with her versatile performances, shining in popular reality shows like Bigg Boss 11, Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10, as well as in various television roles.
With every appearance, she’s managed to leave a lasting impression on fans. But despite the many characters she has brought to life, one role continues to define her even today—Angoori Bhabhi from Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!
In a candid conversation with Downtown Mirror Weekly, Shilpa Shinde reflected on the iconic character, now portrayed by Shubhangi Atre, and admitted that even for her, matching the magic of Angoori Bhabhi would be no easy feat.
Shilpa Shinde said, “The character I portrayed in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! was so epic that to beat it would be a huge challenge for me. In fact, if I were to play it again, I might not be able to—it would still be a big challenge.”
Although her career has seen her shine in various roles, fans often express their disappointment over her being highly selective with new projects, leading to long gaps between appearances. Addressing this, Shilpa Shinde explained, “I was briefly part of Maddam Sir, and my character had a strong personality.
But honestly, there’s nothing on television right now that can match that Angoori Bhabhi character. TV has become very typical, and a lot of things are missing.”
Having started her journey in 2000, Shilpa Shinde feels she has explored almost every shade—positive, negative, and comic—that television has to offer.
Shilpa Shinde said, “I’ve done almost everything on TV, so what’s new now? Anyway, TV audiences don’t really want to see anything different. The audience has become limited and prefers watching only certain kinds of content.”
Shilpa Shinde also revealed that most of the roles offered to her post-Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! have been similar in nature, which she consciously avoids. She said, “There’s no point in playing the same character all your life.
Television lacks freshness. Ideally, there should be some change—a year’s break between seasons, so the audience feels a sense of novelty. But our audience doesn’t want to see anything new, which is why no one takes that risk.”
Despite the industry’s limitations, Shilpa Shinde’s honesty and clarity about her career choices show her deep understanding of the medium—and her unwavering commitment to quality over quantity.
