The reality of the loss hit her harder when she arrived at Cooper Hospital later that night. She shared, “I saw media reporters assembled at the location. That’s when I realised it was real—especially after I saw Shefali’s husband, Parag, arriving at the hospital on the news. It’s heartbreaking.”
Reflecting on the suddenness of such losses, Basu voiced concern over the growing number of unexpected health issues. She said, “These days, you never know what might happen—whether it’s a calamity or something natural and unforeseen. Cardiac arrests have become so common. You see someone with a seemingly perfect life, and then suddenly—they’re gone.”
Nivedita Basu continued, “I don’t know if it’s stress, lifestyle, or something else—but 42 is so young. Life feels incredibly unpredictable.”
Having known the couple for years, Nivedita Basu spoke warmly of Shefali and her enduring positivity. “We’ve known Parag since his early days with Balaji Telefilms. We’ve been friends for many years, and I’ve known Shefali just as long,” she recalled and added, “I honestly can’t remember a time she ever seemed low. Every time I saw her, she was smiling—so full of life.”
Trying to process the shock, she added quietly, “I don’t know what kind of stress could have led to this. Her smiling face remains vivid in my memory.”
In closing, Basu offered a heartfelt message to Shefali’s loved ones. She said, “I pray that her family finds the strength to cope with this unimaginable loss.”
