The XUV 700 has been a huge hit and cemented Mahindra in the world of premium SUVs. Ever since its launch, the combination of the powerful turbo petrol engine as well as the smooth diesel resulted in high sales. However, the competition was repeatedly catching up and the car was showing its age. Now Mahindra is back with a new name but also with a refreshed SUV ready to take on the newer crop of launches in this segment space.

The new name, XUV 7XO is in line with the naming strategy as seen with the XUV 3XO. At first glance, it might look the same as the outgoing XUV 700 but it is overhauled with a classier face. The eye brow DRLs are shorter and the bumper gets a smoother finish. Elsewhere, there are new 19-inch alloys and flush fitting door handles which open automatically when unlocked. The rear too has a new tail-lamp design and a new bumper. The sheer size also means it looks majestic but without being overdone.
The interiors meanwhile have a completely new look with no less than three screens including one for the passenger. Importantly, the driver is not distracted thanks to a filter. The main touchscreen is all new and loaded with features even if there is a slightly confusing layout along with the fact that you do not have enough physical buttons. The new dual tone upholstery might divide opinions but it looks premium enough.

Features are packed though with a 540 degree camera which shows underneath the car along with a 16-speaker audio system from Harman Kardon along with Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision. The driver seat and the passenger seat is powered with memory/walking function for the driver. Aside from that, there are features like dual zone climate control, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof while there are a lot of apps too. The second row is reasonably spacious while you do get blinds, ventilated function and importantly a power setting to move the front passenger seat automatically. The third row is cramped though.

The driving experience is improved with the new suspension and the powerful but silent turbo petrol impressed us. Yes, it has a low fuel efficiency but the power is also thrilling. The diesel engine though gets AWD which might tempt those who do long road trips or even those who do driving in tricky conditions.
Priced at Rs 13.66 lakh, the XUV 7XO is even better value now and remains a strong option for a premium SUV for the family even if the engines are slightly thirsty. Mahindra has added more features but crucially the new suspension makes this a better experience for those seated at the back. While the segment is full of SUVs, the XUV 7XO stands out as a full size offering with good value.
