Lokit Phulwani on Freedom, Responsibility and Following His Dreams

As India marks another Independence Day, actor Lokit Phulwani, who is seen in Oh Humnava Tum Dena Saath Mera, produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah under their banner Studio LSD, reflects on what freedom really means to him, both as an individual and as an artist.
Asked which freedom he feels is most taken for granted today, he points to something people rarely think twice about.
I think freedom of speech is something we often take for granted. Being able to express what you feel, share your thoughts and have your own opinion is a huge freedom, Lokit Phulwani said.
He believes its value often goes unnoticed simply because of how ordinary it feels.
We probably don’t realise its value because it’s such a normal part of our everyday lives.

At the same time, I feel that freedom also comes with a certain responsibility to express yourself without intentionally hurting or disrespecting someone else, Lokit Phulwani said.
Lokit Phulwani on Finding True Independence Through a Clear Mind
For Lokit, real independence has less to do with circumstance and more to do with state of mind.
For me, independence starts in the mind. I feel most independent when my mind is clear and I’m not caught up in unnecessary thoughts or worrying too much about what others think, Lokit Phulwani said.
Whether it’s in my personal life or as an actor, when you have that clarity, you’re able to make your own choices and trust them. I think that’s when you truly feel free, Lokit Phulwani added.
He also looks back at his decision to move to Mumbai as the clearest act of courage in his own journey.
I think coming to Mumbai to pursue my dream of becoming an actor was one of those defining moments. Leaving what was familiar and stepping into an unknown city took courage, Lokit Phulwani said.
There was no guarantee it would work out, but I wanted to try. Looking back, following that instinct was one of the most important decisions I made, Lokit Phulwani added.
Asked what he hopes never changes about India, Lokit Phulwani points to something deeply personal rather than political.
One thing I really love about India is how connected we are to our families. No matter how old we get or where life takes us, that bond with our parents and family remains very strong, Lokit Phulwani said.
He welcomes progress, but hopes it doesn’t come at the cost of that closeness.
Of course, every generation evolves and becomes more independent, which is a good thing, but I hope we never lose that sense of togetherness and being there for each other.

Lokit Phulwani Reveals Why Virat Kohli Inspires Him
When it comes to personal inspiration, Lokit Phulwani‘s answer moves away from history books and toward the cricket field.
I’ve always been more drawn towards sports personalities, and Virat Kohli is someone I really admire.
It’s not just about what he has achieved as a cricketer, but the discipline, consistency and passion he has shown throughout his journey.
He has done incredibly well for himself while also making the country proud on so many occasions.
I really admire that hunger to keep improving even after achieving so much, Lokit Phulwani said.
Finally, asked what message he’d pass on to the next generation about freedom, Lokit Phulwani circles back to the idea of balance.

I would say, enjoy your freedom and make your own choices, but always have a sense of responsibility with it.
Freedom doesn’t mean you can do anything without thinking about the consequences, Lokit Phulwani said.
For him, that balance is the whole point.
Be yourself, live life on your own terms, but at the same time be mindful of how your choices affect the people around you.
I think that balance is very important, Lokit Phulwani ended.
