Actor Smita Sinkar Shah, who essays the role of Uma in Rahul Kumar Tewary’s Jagadhatri, says that the ever-evolving twists in the show keep her creatively alert and emotionally invested. While unpredictability adds excitement to the narrative, she admits it also demands constant adaptability from an actor.
Talking about how sudden shifts in the storyline affect her performance, Smita Sinkar Shah shares, “It really challenges me as an actor. Recently, a scene began on a happy note but ended very unexpectedly. That sudden shift completely changes the mood, and my thought process has to adjust instantly. It keeps me on my toes and feels exhilarating. I’m always curious and excited about what might come next.”
She adds that such twists make the character more demanding, but that’s exactly what she enjoys. She says, “It pushes me to be far more mindful and detailed in my performance. Sometimes, I find myself thinking about Uma even when I’m off camera.”
Comparing character development to discovery, Smita Sinkar Shah explains, “A character has so many layers, it’s like opening a surprise gift box with multiple boxes inside. Every layer reveals something new, and that constant discovery surprises me as an actor.”
Among all twists, emotional turns remain her favorite. Smita Sinkar Shah explains,
“Shock and drama are enjoyable, but emotions are what truly stay with the audience and with you as an actor.”
She also emphasises the importance of adaptability in a fast-paced television environment. Smita Sinkar Shah says, “The fast speed of TV storytelling demands constant adjustment, otherwise it reflects on screen. Being flexible helps you stay honest and truthful to the character, even when the story suddenly shifts gears.”
Hinting at what lies ahead, Smita Sinkar Shah concludes, “Viewers can expect intense drama, strong emotions, and unexpected turns. The upcoming track will place the characters in situations that test them in new ways. It’s going to be gripping and deeply engaging.”
