Mahashivratri 2026 will be observed on February 15. It is considered one of the most sacred and powerful nights when devotees seek blessings from Lord Shiva for peace, clarity, and spiritual enlightenment.

While devotion is what matters the most, the method of offering prayers is also crucial. Astrologer, psychic, and tarot card reader Aarti Kakkar has shared a few things to avoid on the day of the festival to get Lord Shiva’s blessings in abundance.

Aarti Kakkar Lists Ritual Practices to Avoid on Shivratri

Taking to her Instagram handle, Aarti Kakkar wrote, “Mahashivratri special: Mistakes to avoid. To seek Lord Shiva’s blessings wholeheartedly, keep these essential points in mind:

• Avoid wearing black — as it is traditionally not considered auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva.
• Choose white flowers for your offering, and avoid red flowers as well as Ketki and Kevada.
• Tulsi leaves should also not be offered, as they are traditionally associated with Lord Vishnu rather than Lord Shiva.
• While performing the parikrama of the Shivling (Shiva Linga), avoid completing a full circle and return after half a round.
• Offer fresh Bael leaves only — avoid torn or damaged leaves.
• Offer milk using a copper vessel and avoid using brass utensils for the ritual.
• Do not offer coconut water on the Shivling, especially on Shivratri.

Aarti Kakkar further added, “True devotion bears fruit when worship is performed with the right method, purity, and faith. May Lord Shiva bless you with peace, clarity of mind, and enduring strength.”
